Wedding band

A wedding band or wedding ring is not just a metal but it conveys message of commitment towards married life. This is worn by the both wife and husband. Particularly, this is adopted by European community and now followed all over the world.

A wedding band is nothing but a valuable metal worn on the fourth finger. This is linked with engagement ring. It is also termed as the promise ring. It is believed that wearing band on the fourth ring links to the heart. It conveys message of love to the heart. It has started before the discovery of circulatory system. Even, today the medical science fails to give the correct reason for this connection. There is a particular term for this called vena amori. This is derived from the Latin dictionary.

Based upon this name, the experts of matrimonial etiquette wrote that it would be worn on this finger only. It symbolizes eternal love between wife and husband.

But wearing wedding band is common among woman in the United States. Man generally removes it for the comfort and safety point of view. It is not regarded as rude or unfaithfulness towards the marriage, but it is simply avoided due to some reason.

A band can be of any material (even a rubber band) is acknowledged to complete most religious marital ceremonies. This is only acts as an unusual substitution under unusual circumstances. Rubber bands are generally used when people marry on ship-board, and no ring can be fitted.

The most common and precious material is yellow alloy of gold, toughened with copper, tin and bismuth. There are even more superior and equivalent material used in wedding band is platinum and white alloys of gold. Nowadays titanium is in great demand in the form of wedding band. It has become more popular due to its durability, affordability, and gunmetal grey color. Even, the least expensive material is also used as nickel silver.

There are many other metals, but they are seldom used like copper, brass and other corroding materials. These metals give bad smell to skin. Stainless steel is also least preferred because it is not considered as a precious metal.

There is a great sense of sentiment attached with wedding band. If it is made by either spouse, then that becomes as precious as diamond.

The wedding band can be worn in the form of chain also if it does not fit finger.

There are many views regarding the place of band on hand. Christians wear it on their left hand, whereas orthodox Christians and Jews wear it on their right hand.
